Have just tried googling Julvort, but no satisfactory results appeared (ie. there were lots in Swedish ;). Could you write a bit more about this bread?
ptasia - I'll even try to make my own this year! Vört is a byproduct of beermaking, and it's used in this bread which turns out very sweet and slightly spicy. It often has raisins as well, and it's a big controversy if people like it with or without the raisins. It's something very classic on the christmas Smorgasbord, for sure.
Thank you! Now I know vort is wort in English, which in Polish is called brzeczka (never heard this name until 1 minute ago). I wonder if this could be replaced in bread by some kind of infusion of barley malt powder (which I have at home)? There's no way I'd get hold of wort...
Hello Anne, I'm a mom of seven and also a lover of food. However my husband is a much better cook than I so I would like to make a yummy dinner for advent. Any suggestions? blessings, Tracie in Texas
Tracie - try this cinnamon chicken! It's easy to make for many, and delicious. http://annesfood.blogspot.com/2007/10/cinnamon-chicken-orange-cous-cous.html
Hello Anne, last Christmas, I've been to Stockholm. I bought one Julvort loaf by chance and I loved the taste of it. Then I bought it several times during my whole trip. Unfortunately I can't find this kind of loaf in Italy where I live. I’ve tried to search its recipe for long time. But I didn't find it. By google, I found your blog. would you mind share the recipe of Julvort? Thank you very much.
I wish I could - but sadly I've never baked it myself. (Vört isn't that easy to find.) However, I get a lot of hits when googling "vörtbröd + recipe", in English, so I hope that can help you!
