I always think frying things is a bit of a hassle, but once in a while, it's worth all that oil and all that clean-up.
These onion strings: definitely worth it.
Simple. Thinly slice an onion or two. Soak in buttermilk (or well, I used Swedish filmjolk) for an hour.
Toss with flour, that you have seasoned with salt and cayenne pepper.
And plunge into hot oil. Fry until golden. Season with more salt and black pepper.
Enjoy!

I also tend to think frying is a hassle, but sometinmes worth it. These look amazing!
I will definitely try these. I love onions.
I don't think it is that bad to deep-dry things, nad I quite like to watch it turn golden brown in front of me. Will definitely try your onion strings, they look delish!
Mmm this looks completely delicious! xx

These look so good. I could eat millions. I'll have to give frying another chance.
I fry often, part of my upbringing :) you should also try cutting the onion thick and using a batter (water or beer and flour), tasty! and finding your blog was pleasant when I moved to Stockholm!

Reminds me of tempura. And Swedish filmjolk is really good. They go well together?... I have to make an off-topic comment, am sad that the Sweden women lost today :(.
These look absolutely stunning. I love fried onion rings and I agree with you that cleaning up afterwards is a bit of a schlep, but well worth it.
These look great! They are super good dipped in Bloomin' Onion sauce. It is a horseradish based sauce that is very popular in the US. Might be worth a google search to find a recipe for it so you can try it out with this dish. If you can find a copycat recipe, a really good one to look for is Outback Steakhouse's Bloomin' Onion dip. :)
Great tips everyone! John - me too, or well, a LITTLE sad. I don't care much, to be honest :)
Chelsey, thanks!! My friend used to be a hostess at Outback and we did get the Bloomin Onion once. Don't remember the sauce, but I'll google it :)
