Make a royal Wedding Cake!

folketsbrollopstarta

Today is the day of the British Royal Wedding! As we had one ourselves last year, I thought I'd remind you of the cake I made then. Go to the post here.

What a charming and delicious looking cake! Anne, I have a question: were Swedes crazy about the English Royal Wedding like the Americans were? I just don't understand why so many people in the U.S. (my country) get so excited over an English Royal Wedding and don't even know when there are other royal weddings in different countries.

Lizzy - perhaps not a huge wedding frenzy, but sure, there was a lot of buzz. Since we had our own royal wedding one year ago, the papers have been full of details and comparisons. :)

Hej Anne
What do you think of the British Royal Wedding cake as opposed to the Swedish Royal Wedding cake? I am still wondering why yours was so unadorned...

Gaviota - I think theirs was beautiful, although I'm unsure of the flavor. Swedish cakes tend to fokus on fillings, much more than the actual cake element, and rarely that much on decoration. They're often left rather plain, actually! (Swedes generally don't eat buttercream or icing, at least not in large quantities) :)

Thanks for answering!
I think it had to be a fruitcake to keep with the very traditional English theme of the whole wedding (dress, bouquet, British designer, etc). Having said that, Prince William did ask for a chocolate cake which looked a lot tastier.
I saw a clip of Princess Victoria cutting the cake. It didn't look to me as if it was a Princess cake, or was that too obvious a choice?

Oh yeah, theirs wasn't a Princess cake at all. This one, which was sort of reminiscent of a princess cake, was created for "the people" and sold in the months before the wedding. The actual wedding cake was very different, and you can read the details here:
