Cinnamon Swirl Bread
I grew up with my grandmother's cinnamon rolls, but I had never heard of cinnamon swirl bread until I spent a year in California. The idea is weird to me - bread, but sweet? Weird or not, it's pretty darn tasty. And it was only recently that I tried it myself. You can make it from any bread dough, but I used Farmgirl's Oatmeal Toasting Bread, and this Spice Sugar.
Instead of shaping loaves directly after the bread has proved, roll it into a thick rectangle. Brush with a bit of melted butter, sprinkle liberally with spiced sugar, and roll it back up into a loaf shape. Place seam-side down into a loaf pan (greased and sprinkled with extra spiced sugar if you'd like) and bake as you normally would.
I keep mine sliced in the freezer, very convenient for a quick sugar-carb fix when the need hits.

Wow... I think it's delicious.
Mmmm, my mom and grandma use to make this too with a "secret" family recipe for bread.
Hmmm... leave it to us Americans to make it sweeter! Ha. Now if you add some raisins to that dough and THEN while it's still a bit warm out of the oven spread the whole top with a powdered sugar frosting/glaze, you'll have heaven.
That's MY favorite bread from the U.S. Toasted and spread with butter. Did I say heaven? Heaven!

I always read these posts when am hungry...WRONG. Am drooling again (sorry a bit too graphic, I know).
Totally tasty but too tempting too! :-)
Sounds delicious. Cinnamon rolls are usually too sweet for my taste, so I prefer cinnamon bread.
Wow your making me hungry!

Delicious! We always had cinnamon raisin bread growing up. It was one of the few foods my mom couldn't somehow ruin!
Keep up the good blog!

Hey, just saw your site - and I love it. Don't know if you usually do this, BUT - do you have any good recipes for real tasty american burgers? Hope it's not too much to ask!
Christinamathilde - oh, no problems, but.. well, sorry. As I'm not American, I don't really know much about American burgers :)But for burgers in general, I like to just take great quality ground meat, a little salt and pepper, and minced garlic, and blend it *very* briefly and carefully. The more you handle the mince, the dried the burger will be. So, a light touch!
Det här måste jag prova! Hur äter du det, bara med smör? Så tråkigt att höra om Edith, alla livets förluster är svåra att hantera... Kram
Tack Hemliga Kockan - det är tungt, men well, livet går vidare. Jaa, ät med bara smör! Jag rostar mitt så det blir varmt och härligt, och så lite smör på. Kanon. Och det är ju "bröd" så nyttigare än bulle. Typ. :)
Mmm... this is D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. It tastes so sweet. Which is how i like my snacks!
I have seen this kind of bread in france. Sometimes it is put in a rectangular baking pan and rises over the edge. Very tasty I agree. If you dry slices from leftovers you have the nicest "skorpor" as well.
I'm going to have to try this! It looks great!
