Pierre Marcolini

marcolini-0909

Just a note. If you're in Brussels, there's chocolate, everywhere. The best one, however, is made by Pierre Marcolini and it's absolutely great. I always force my friends who go to Brussels to bring me back a box - it's horribly expensive, but still worth it. However, I think you have to go to one of the actual shops, i don't think it's available at the airport. (Or is it? Does anyone know?)

Brussels chocolate, how delightful. It's worth the trip just for the chocolate itself.

Marcolini is my favorite, but Wittamer is a very close second. The next time you're in Brussels you should try both. They're just across the Place des Sablons from one another so a taste test is very convenient. Wittamer has a cafe, too.

Good point, I'd love to try Wittamer. I wonder if *that* can be found at the airport? I'm not going myself, but my husband is. He won't be in the city, unfortunately...

Oh, and avoid buying chocolates at the airport if you can buy them in town. They're simply not as fresh.

Ooh, too bad about airport only. There is at least one stand where you can choose your own chocolates, like in the in-town boutiques. That's probably fresher than all the pre-packaged stuff. But i can't remember which chocolatier it is.

How long is his layover? It's only a 15-minute train ride into town...

Chanterelle, thank you so much :) He's staying overnight, but he'll be working outside of Brussels City - far from the chocolate. :(

Puglette, it actually is chocolate, painted red! I'm pretty sure it had raspberries in it, but I don't remember for sure :)

My daughter gave me a box for my birthday. It had a small book inside with his chocolate collection. About the red hart it says: Fresh raspberry ganache with a lemon zest twist.
