Cookie Scoop?

I never use cookie scoops - I haven't seen them here - but I suddenly want one. What size should I get? I seriously have *no* idea - 1, 2, 3 tbsp? What do you use the most? And is there a particular kind I should look for? (Pretty much limited to Ebay.)

I use one but really a measuring spoon works just as well. Not a needed piece of equiptment.

I use a 1 Tbsp b/c that's what I have, but a 2 Tbsp. would probably make a better sized cookie (at least, according to my husband). My 1 Tbsp. makes about a 2-inch cookie most of the time.

Anne,
Don't buy it. It is not necessary and you really don't need it. Buy a lipstick instead. I am serious. This would be a silly purchase and it would contribute to the world clutter. Avoid cluttering your life.
best wishes,
Anna

I just use my 1 tbsp measuring spoon, and it works fine. Makes the perfect sized cookie in my opinion.

I find sick satisfaction in making cookies that are all exactly the same size. The scoop I have was a gift, and now that I have it I'm a convert. It's so much easier than a spoon. It's especially nice if you'll be making sandwiches. Mine's 1 Tbsp, but I like a smallish cookie. It also scoops out lovely, tiny scoops of ice cream or sorbet.

Thanks for all the input! I'm no fan of clutter either, but I would love to for once make perfectly even cookies... my measuring spoon is definitely not up to the job, the handle is much too weak for a stiff cookie dough. I could get another one, but that would be even more clutter, so... :)

I didn't even know there was something like cookie scoop, when i make chocolate chip cookies etc, i just use a ice cream scooper.

Yep - small ice cream scoop. Works perfectly. I use mine for cookies and meatballs (and occasionally for ice cream).

Sadly, I don't have an ice cream scoop either. Or at least not a spring-action one. The one I have is shown here - http://annesfood.blogspot.com/2006/12/rocky-road-semifreddo.html - but that would make huge cookies...

I've e-mailed a few sellers on Ebay to see if they'll ship here without charging an arm and a leg! :)

Hi Anne,

I think you must be able to find one in Stockholm, and it shouldn't be so expensive. My mother bought one already back in the 80's in Oslo, where they are still sold as 'ice cream scoopers'. I don't think we Norwegians have understood what they are actually ment for! :) She finds ut fantastic for ice cream as well (to get a perfectly shaped ball and to get it easily out of the scoop), so I guess a 2-in-1 item would contribute to justify the purchase, nevermind the fact that you already have an ice cream scoop however...
I am looking forward to some pics of your next batch of evenly shaped cookies!

I have a 'truffle' scoop that I used for cookies too and it's the perfect size for cookies that are a good bite size, I think it's about 2 ounces...so about 3 tbsp?

I have never heard of a cookies scoop .. or a truffle scoop for that matter. Is it that much different from an ice cream scoop?

If you find one you like I'll get it for you and send it out as an early birthday present. I love mine and use them for all sorts of things. I don't have a "melon baller" and use the cookie scoop instead. I've got both sizes and use them equally.

I'll be sending you a care package anyway around that time so it's really not a big deal. You can also order it and have it sent to my house.

I have a cookie scooper that I bought years ago after I moved to the USA & use it whenever I make cookies. I sometimes froze the little balls of cookie dough so that you can bake a small number of cookies when you want to. I'd be lost without mine.

I'm a happy ebayer, because I found some good auctions yesterday :) And shipping was very reasonable. So - two cookie scoops, in different sizes, are hopefully coming up :)
