Eating organic in the archipelago

stromma

Coming to Stockholm this summer? Then you absolutely must take a trip on one of the many boats in the archipelago. There's so much available - anything from short tours of Stockholm to longer day-trips out to the more remote islands. The viws are absolutely wonderful - truly amazing! And many of the boats serve great food, too! News this year is that Strömma Kanalbolaget, which is one of the largest organizers of these trips, have a focus on organic and locally produced food. I got to sample some of the goodies at a press lunch, but clumsily forgot to bring my camera. I can assure you it was delicious though - I especially remember the white asparagus with ramps, and a delicious ramekin with artichoke puré and braised boar.

Thanks for the tip. Just so happens my girlfriend and I have been planning a trip to Stockholm. Let's see if we have time (and money) for a little boat ride.

This may not be the right place to ask, but could someone say where we could find some nice shops selling "kitchen stuff" in Stockholm?

What sort of things are you looking for? The department stores - especially NK - have pretty big kitchen departments, and then there's a specialty shop called Cordon-Bleu across the street from the Central station that's also quite good.

Nothing particular in mind. If this (http://www.cordon-bleu.se/) is the same Cordon-Bleu, then it looks just perfect. We both love all kinds of kitchen utensils and it's always nice to see what's available.

Also if there's good chocolate available (maybe Valrhona) and good places to eat, we would love to hear about them. Unfortunately we're travelling on a student budget, so affordable prices would be a nice thing.

Thanks for the NK and Cordon-Bleu. Both went on the "must visit"-list.

That's the one indeed! You should try to go for coffee and dessert at Chokladfabriken - they have some really nice chocolates. And while you're there, you're almost next door to Cajsa Warg which is an amazing and unique food store. Both are on Södermalm, close to Slussen subway station :)

Okay, now I'm really looking forward to visit Stockholm. Thanks for the great tips. Looks like it's going to be a busy trip.

Already feel like a big kid in a candy shop.

Ah, I'm now very nostalgic for stockholm... Last summer (when we were there) we unfortunately didn't have the time to have an archipelago cruise. Such a pity, as I really longed to do that. What I would recommend though, to people visiting stockholm for the first time, is having a short cruise around the city itself- we did that & it was really beautiful. We're hoping to visit Stockholm again as soon as possible, this time though it'll be 3 of us instead of 2 :-)
