Raclette

raclette

Ooey, gooey cheese. Raclette is divine. What a great concept. Melt cheese. Pour on bread, veggies, anything really. Eat. A lot.

I'm off to another cheese event today - a seminar on the deliciously sharp Västerbotten cheese. I'll report back!

Oh, nothing in this world like hot stringy, lovely smelling cheese and it feels like velvet in your mouth. Raclette is a great idea not very often seen in the US. A friend of mine and I tried it one night. So satifying. We just used bread with ours. And with a couple of bottles of wine - oh my, a party in your mouth! Looking forward to your cheese report!

Cheese! Quel délice! Like winedeb said, raclette is not found often on this side of the pond... at least not in my small town of 20k pop. I've never even heard of the other one... I'm waiting with baited breath for your report.

Hi Anne!

Hm.... did you really use this raclette thing with the little candles? Does it work?

I have seen it before, but I only ever used the proper raclette grills, where the little pans are placed under the hot element and the heat comes from above, melting the cheese and perhaps browning it a bit when you leave it in for too long.

I guess it is the only true portable solution, although a bit single-purpose...

Hi Anne, me again! You might be interested in this cookbook on raclette: The Insider's Guide to the Secret World of Raclette Dining. I don't know if you can get it from Adlibris, but you can definitely get it from Amazon US or directly from the publisher (see link above).

I personally love it, but a warning: you can't do most recipes with the raclette grill you have, you'd need a "proper" one...

Perhaps something for your wishlist ;)

Christine - thanks for the recommendation! This works fine to melt the cheese - but that's all it really does, too :) I've seen real raclette grills too, but I find them a bit big... it's not something we eat very often, so I'm a bit hesitant to get one. But maybe I should! :)

I recently tried Raclette at a friends house and loved the idea of it! It was truly a wonderful meal!

Have you seen this authentic raclette grill? There is an element under which you place 1/2 wheel of raclette cheese. The cheese melts, you tip the element back, the cheese forward and scrap off the melted cheese. You can see one for sale at this site...

But as others have said, it is pretty much a uni-tasker.... But what a lovely task! Melted cheese... Yum! ;D

I just love love LOVE raclette! In fact, anything involving melty cheese is OK in my book ;-) I think the trick is to have a friend with a raclette grill - so yuo get to use it but don't have to store it. Hmmm, guess what I wil be giving out as wedding gifts from now onwards!!
