World's Best Pear Crumble

I first ate this at Lena's, and she reluctantly shared the almost embarrasingly easy recipe.

This is one of the tastiest desserts ever, despite it having only three ingredients. I'm not hesitant to post this - sure, it might be trashy, but we all need some cards up our sleeve, and this one is really a great stand-by. The ingredients don't go bad easily, and you can have them at hand whenever. I know we do.

Pear Crumble
Serves 4

-a large can of tinned pears
-one packet of cake mix, I usually use lemon
-50-100 g butter, thinly sliced

Open the can. Cut the pears in half, and put in an oven-proof dish. Pour over about 100 ml of the pear syrup, and discard the rest. Open the box of cake mix, and pour over the pears. Finally, top with thin slices of butter, to totally cover the surface.

Bake at 175°C for about 40 minutes. Serve with vanilla custard or ice cream.

When pressed for time... My son just adores cheat banana bread: carrot cake mix, few drops of almond extract and 2 mashed bananas. Baked in loaf tin, please!

Oh no, the secret is out. Now I have to start looking for a new fast backup desert. But this one is as tasy as it is easy.

Gör samma sak med vanliga äpplen eller inlagda persikor (fast jag måste fråga systeryster om "receptet"). Äpplen/persikor, smuldeg, osthyvlat smör. Alldeles för gott ;).

I'm just seeing this 2006 post for the first time, due to the link in your Oct. 12th '07 blog entry.

Anyway, yes! This was very popular back in the USA in the 70's. But THAT recipe calls for something like 1 stick of butter, melted over it! I mean... no WONDER it was SO GOOD! Not good FOR you, but GOOD!

I've never tried it with pears. I think I SHOULD, don't YOU?!? :)

I'm always on the search for recepies that can be used when sailin, i.e. a tiny citchen without ordinary oven and a very uneven supply of fresh fruit.

On the boat we use a metallic cake dish with lid on. Canned fruit stoved away everywhere is a must.

I think this pear crumble will make our summer evenings in the archepellago even better.

Thanks!

Hy Anna
This looks very tasteful.
But i am not living in Sweden and i want to ask you about the cake mix.
If its in a package how much does it contains?
The cake mix in Holland are mostly 500gr.

Good point! It's about the same here, 4-500 g.
