Matcha Vanilla Pannacotta

Look at that pretty picture! Just look at it, gorgeous pale green creamy mounds in a deep chocolate sauce.. Look at it.

Seriously. Just look at it. Don't attempt to eat it.

It tasted.. not good at all. *sigh* My first experimentation with matcha, and.. um, no. This was not a great idea. I used a basic pannacotta recipe, added two vanilla beans to steep in the cream, and then about a tablespoon of matcha.. which actually clumped up and made quite a mess, but I sieved it, and saved it. Or so I thought.

Anyway. Everything goes down with chocolate.

Ha ha! That's too funny because I don't understand matcha-flavored desserts at all. I mean, I like a cup of hot green tea or even iced green tea but it's not a flavor that I long for in other applications.

Well, it is fun to make experiments anyway! I tagged you for a meme by the way - answer it when and if you have the time and opportunity...

Hi again,
I encountered some problems while publishing so the meme isn´t visible yet but I am working on it...

Hullo Anne!
Matcha is a wonderful thing, really, if you can do it right. I'm hardly an expert, but here are some basic tips to keep in mind when using matcha:

1. It needs to be used very quickly; stale matcha isn't nearly as good. This is why it's best to buy it in small quantities.
2. When adding it to anything, use as you would miso; i.e mixing it separately with just a little liquid and gradually adding more until it's smooth and lump-free.

Personally, I can never get matcha pannacotta to work. However, it's wonderful in baking, especially in a yoghurt cake or cupcakes!
I hope this helps!

Since I was one of the lucky test eaters of this pannacotta I feel I have to defend it a little bit. First I must say that I do not drink any tea, drinking ordinary tea like earl grey would seriously make me sick, hence I have not tasted green tea. So when Anne announced this green tea dessert I was worried. But it was not that bad. It was wonderfully creamy, so I could have eaten it just for the texture and the nice colour. The taste however I don't know, for sure it did not taste like tea since I ate most of my pice. To me it had a funny taste of newly cut grass or Timothy grass. Not something I really look for in a dessert, but it is definetly something I will remember.

Lena, thank you! Not that I think you were so lucky, but still...

Anonymous - thank you so much for your tips! Cupcakes sound like a very good use for it - I have to try that! :)
