Lékué Decomax

decomax

A couple of blogging friends recently started a webshop, Ninas Mat, and offered me to review one of their bestsellers, the Decomax. It's from Lékué which makes a lot of cool silicone products for the kitchen. (And they're sold all over the world - just do a google search to find a retailer near you.)

I found it to be pretty good! It's easy to hold in one hand and easy to squeeze, so it makes for simple, consistent piping. I tried decorating cookies with the smallest nozzle and melted chocolate, and also for filling macarons with a thick chocolate ganache and a larger tip. Both tasks went very well.

I found it very good for neat drizzling.

You're limited to the six tips that comes with it, but it's a fairly good range. They're all on the small side though. And they *are* a bit of a hassle to clean, but the Decomax itself is easy - just wash with hot, soapy water. I'm pretty sure it's dishwasher safe as well, but mine didn't need it. It's also microwave-safe, which means you can melt chocolate directly in it and then pipe away - pretty convenient.

I had some leftover chocolate and decided to play. My piping skills suck. I know.

For large piping jobs, I much prefer single-use piping bags and loose tips and couplers. Sure. This won't hold all that much - definitely not enough frosting for an entire cake, or a batch of macarons. But for smaller stuff, this is a good option.

  6. Aha, jag använder oftast vanliga tunna teflonbakdukar, men jag har någon i silikon från Iittala. Inte helt kattvänliga dock, silikon suger verkligen åt sig hår...
