And no, I didn't bake any semlor this year either! These little lovelies are from Petite France. Cardamom buns, homemade almond paste (stirred with some vanilla) and whipped cream. Delicious!
If you're looking for a recipe, head over to Dagmar, who has a good one.
I think that Sébastiens had also vanilla cream (Créme Anglaise) in them. Mums!
ReplyDeleteIndeed - much yummier than the usual way (milk). I'll try it.. some time. I'm admittedly to lazy for semlor, mostly because I don't really want to make twenty. (Or well, I *do*, but I really shouldn't..)
ReplyDeleteMine are baked and ready...I just need to assemble them! I love introducing this tradition to my American friends!
ReplyDeleteDagmar's recipe is perfect. I tried it out last fall and will be making it again today.
ReplyDeleteIn Norway we call iy Fastelaven, and it's always celebrated on Sunday before Shrove Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteWe bake the same kind of buns, but cut them in half and add a layer of raspberry jam and whipped cream in between. Sifted icing sugar on top, and a real mess to eat. :-)
Your traditional Shrove Tuesday food looks a lot more delicious than what they have here in England. Shrove Tuesday = Pancake (crepe) Day
